Hair loss in women is frightening at any time. This also includes the time following having a baby. Post partum hair loss is a natural process. In most cases it is totally normal and settles on its own.
Hello I’m Shuna Hammocks and I own Sussex Trichology.
I want to talk to you about hair loss following pregnancy. A lot of people are frightened by the hair loss they see following having their baby and I want to reassure you that it’s perfectly normal.
During the 9 months of pregnancy the hair loss rate slows right down and some cases completely stops. So when you’ve given birth of finished breast feeding, the hair loss you notice is simply a catch up and is completely normal for a duration of 6-9 months but it’s when the loss continues beyond this further action needs to be taken. This may be carried out by your GP. Who might carry out various blood tests including Ferritin, B12, Zinc, hormone profile thyroid ( if there’s a family history).
I can arrange these to be carried out here as I am a qualified phlebotomist, and the blood test can have the tests assessed privately. The hair loss presents often around the front hair line, the temple hair may show many short hairs and the general density may even appear to of reduced by up to a third. It’s all absolutely fine- I can help you on many levels and if you contact me I can help you further and we can talk the condition through.
